The season so far
I hope you are enjoying the 2008 flat season as much as we are!
Although we're still in the midst of summer, with several more big races, and smaller ones to look forward to, it's time to start planning for the future and getting the horses on board that will be the stars for next year.
A brief summary of the season so far. Royal Ascot was unforgettable and Kingsgate Native proved himself a Group One star once again, maintaining the good fortune that has stayed with John Mayne since he joined the yard. Not bad for a £20k purchase at Doncaster!
He was backed up by Flashmans Papers and Mullionmileanhour in the Windsor Castle, and both look as though they will be contesting Group races in the future.
Dave Gorton, who owns Flashmans Papers, also bought horses in the USA last year, and has been rewarded with Square Eddie who looked every inch a Group race performer when hacking up in a decent Salisbury maiden last time out. He looks very much like his sire’s most famous son, Curlin, and who knows - he may even contest a Breeder’s Cup one day.
One thing is pretty certain - he'll be representing his owner at Royal Ascot next year!
