Highlights and high points

Hurricane Spirit has really done well for us this winter, and his run against older horses on 13 January is looking like a really good race now, with Areyoutalkingtome, Qadar, Waterside and Party Boss all having won since.

Hurricane Spirit Hurricane Spirit winning at Lingfield

Our lad has had an easy time since that run and we've just started to increase his work again now, so we should have him spot on for the Spring Cup at Lingfield on 24 March. This is a £25,000 Listed race that we won last year with Kingsgate Prince (now called Sunny King since he was sold to Hong Kong). Rising Cross was also third in the race, over an inadequate seven furlongs. The trip should suit Hurricane Spirit really well, and I think someone is going to have to produce something really special to beat us on that day.

Halsion Chancer Our maiden winner Halsion Chancer

Halsion days

Halsion Chancer is another exciting prospect worth following. His debut at Lingfield over five furlongs was a joy to watch, and although the race was only moderate, I am sure that this horse will progress onto much bigger and better things. He runs again on 19 February over five furlongs, and then there's probably not another race for him until 2 April, when I hope we'll see him even better when stepped up to six furlongs.

Others to watch

We have a few other horses to watch out for, I think. Hucking Heat found six furlongs a little on the short side last time, so a step up to seven furlongs or even a mile will see him to much better effect.

Brave Jack is another who is improving fast, and I'm looking forward to him for later in the spring.

Rising Cross Group races await Rising Cross

Rising Cross

In the slightly longer-term, Rising Cross has just started her roadwork and will probably be seen first time on 18 May at York for the Group Two Yorkshire Cup over 1m 6f. She'll follow that with a tilt at the Group One Coronation Cup on 1 June at Epsom. That race is over 1m 4f – the same as last year's Oaks – and we know she handles the track well, so we have a big advantage!
