Marewatch
We have three mares currently in foal and three that will be having their first season at stud this year.
Noverre - Santiburi Girl's next suitor Santiburi Girl
This mare was my first flat winner, and I bought her a few years ago in foal to Primo Valentino. Previous to that, she already had a foal – Resplendent Nova – who has been reasonably successful, having won three races over seven furlongs and been placed many times. Santiburi Girl is due to foal to Tobougg and has a yearling by Desert Sun. She now goes to Noverre, who I think could make a good stallion, having done really well in his first year.
Kallista's Pride on the gallops Kallista's Pride
This mare, owned by G G Racing, is in foal for the first time, again to Tobougg. She was a really good racemare for us, winning seven times. She also goes to Kodiac this year.
Broughton Zest
Another G G Racing mare, Broughton Zest was a good racemare who won five races for us. She’s not had so much luck at stud – her first foal injured himself in the field, and at the moment looks unlikely to make it to the track, although he’s sound at the moment. We may reassess him in June to make a final decision. She then had a foal born dead. She is in foal to Desert Sun, and this year visits Kodiac, a first-season sire who is a three-parts brother to champion first-season sire Invincible Spirit. It will be interesting to see if Kodiac can make a similar impact as a stallion.
Chineur is expecting two of our mares Villarosi
This girl is owned by the Porcia Partnership. She came to us plagued with problems and proved very difficult to keep sound, but did have a fair bit of ability. She was second for us in a reasonably Newbury race off a mark of 70. she was worth little as a racemare so I felt she was worth a try as a broodmare. She visits Chineur who was a really good sprinter, winning two Group and four Listed race. Chineur’s first foals are due this year.
Daughter’s World
This mare's owner is Jenny Schabaker, the owner of Oasis Sun, who won recently at Kempton. I think they probably got the pedigree wrong with Daughter’s World – she is by a sprinter, Agnes’ World, out of a mare with plenty of stamina, and seems to have ended up being tripless! She is well related however, so could still prove a good broodmare. Like Villarosi, she visits Chineur.
Epineuse
Finally, I have Epineuse, a small filly who won a little race in 2006 but failed to progress again. She is well related, though, so I have taken her on, and she visits Kodiac.
