What better way to start the Diamond Jubilee celebrations than a win at Epsom on Derby Day in front of Her Majesty the Queen!
Folkestone Racecourse Owners Group's (FROG) Stone of Folca made his racecourse debut this year on prestigious Epsom Derby Day. He went off at 50/1 in the Investec 5f Dash and overcame a wide draw to take on the 20 strong field under jockey Luke Morris. He fulfilled all the promise he shows at home, with a blistering turn of speed, winning easily for his ecstatic owners in a time of 53.69 seconds (fast by 1.21 secs) earning him a place in the record books by being the fastest horse in the world over 5f. (Pictured above winning and below some of his delighted owners take to the winner's podium to celebrate).
Trainer John Best said "a great win in the Dash by Stone of Folca today. Well done to all the team at home and Helen Williams (Racing Syndicate Manager) for putting it all together. Great ride by Luke and I believe not only was it the first time the race has been won from a stall lower than 9, but also the fastest time recorded electronically for any 5f race! We will almost certainly take our chances at Royal Ascot, although that will be a huge step up. Thank you to all the owners who kept faith in him, you all deserve it so much."
Thank you to all owners and supporters of the yard for your congratulations which have been flooding in by email and text today. More pictures and video to come over the weekend. Watch the "Stone of Folca flavour of Epsom win" video here More Epsom pictures in the gallery
