Group-winning form

John's Square Eddie showed his class during the prestigious Keeneland autumn meeting by winning the Grade One Lane's End Breeders' Futurity and then coming second at the Breeders' Cup. Flashmans Papers won the listed Windsor Castle at Royal Ascot. Kingsgate Native won the Group One Nunthorpe Stakes, followed by the Group One Golden Jubilee. Star filly Rising Cross won a Group Two and placed in both the English and Irish Oaks, while Kingsgate Prince won the prestigious Listed Spring Cup, and Hurricane Spirit capped a run of four wins with victory in a Conditions race at Kempton.

A keen judge of a horse

John Best has a sharp eye for a horse, and his record with the yearlings he has purchased himself is exemplary. In 2005 he spent £200,000 on yearlings - to date, those horses have won almost £500,000 in prize money, and those who have been sold have made a combined total of £650,000. Sales in 2008 reached nearly £2.5 million.

Knowing when to sell

John has developed a keen sense for the perfect moment to sell a horse. He bought Rising Cross for just £14,000 and negotiated her sale for £325,000, while Kingsgate Prince cost £32,000 and sold for £260,000.
Some of the horses sold in 2008 included Kingsgate Native, Square Eddie, Relative Order, South Paw Lad and Mullionmileanhour.

Individual attention

Each horse in John's yard receives an individual programme of training and the very best care. The vet visits the yard routinely twice a week to check each horse, and all the horses are given plenty of time out in the paddocks, keeping them fresh and happy.

The best information

John keeps all of his owners informed with the latest information about their horses. He's always available to discuss the progress of his charges, and his website stays up to date with all the latest news. John also discusses his recent runners and future entries in his weekly blog. Each owner receives a monthly newsletter with personal exclusive updates on their horse with pictures taken at race meetings and at home on the gallops.

A warm welcome

Owners are always welcome to visit their horses at John's yard in Hucking, Kent. It's an easy drive of less than an hour from London, and owners can see their horses at the yard and working on the gallops.
